Top 3 Terrors
There are 3 sharks in the world's oceans that top all others in words of fear. The top is the Great White Shark, also known as the "white pointer." The Great White Shark become the most famous species of shark in the world, after the 1975 horror film JAWS. They have been known as mindless killers, and are the world's perfect apex predator. They can come from underneath to attack unwary seals from the deep, speeding up to 20 mph, and propelling themselves out of the water. This behavior has been caught on tape off the South African coast, and around Seal Island. View this slideshow below:
Great White Sharks get their name from their white underbellies, which makes them invisible when looking at them. to view a video of the Great White Sharks off South Africa, you can click on the link below:

Their favorite food is seals, and since a human on a boogieboard looks an awful lot like a seal, that is why the sharks attack. Just out of curiousity.
Great White Sharks can grow to an astonishing 21 ft. long, and have a very large set of jaws with 5 sets of teeth in their upper and lower jaws, which altogether have about 230 teeth at one time. When one tooth falls out, however, it is almost immediately replaced by another. These sharks can go through 50,000 teeth in one lifetime!
It is believed that these mighty beasts can grow to be 30 or older, but they are disappearing. They have recorded lesss than 10,000 in the wild, but people believe that since they dive down deep, that number is not accurate. They have been known as mindless killers for over 35 years now, but that just isn't the case.
Sadly, however, the horror movie JAWS was based on a real-life happening. In 1916, a young Great White somehow managed to get into a Jersey Shore river and attacked and killed many people. they managed to kill the shark, but not before it devoured more than 2 individuals.
There is only one predator in the sea that actually eats a shark! Orcinus orca, also referred to as "Shamu," the "Killer Whale," or the most common, the Orca!

Orcas prey on Great White Sharks, but when a Great White or other kind of shark, like Tiger Sharks or Reef Sharks attack humans, orca's cousins are known to defend them. Dolphins! That's right, I said cousin, because Orcas are actually a species of dolphin. It's just that they are so large, everybody mistakes them for whales! Tiger Shark

Tiger Sharks are rated as #2 danger of the oceans, but some are what seems to be friendly. These magnificent creatues average 14 feet long, but can get to up to 17 ft! They're also known to grow up to 1,400 lbs and higher. One man, who in my eyes is now very famous in means of shark behavior research, tested himself against these maginifcent fish. His name is Mark Addison.
He actually formed a bond with a large female he came to name "Dolores." The man dove with Dolores and formed a bond with the magnificent beast. He has a special heart condition that lowers his heart rate down to 30 beats a minute at one time, reducing his need for oxygen, allowing him to stay underwater for six minutes at a time.
Tiger Sharks have been famous since scientists believed they contributed to the deaths of the overboard sialors of the then sinking USS Indianapolis. They say Oceanic Whitetip Sharks were at the scene as well.
Tiger Sharks are also famous for being known as the "garbage bins" of the sea. They have been known to eat nearly anything. Dead Tiger Sharks have been recorded with license plates, tin cans, car tires, gloves, and one with even a human hand inside its stomach! One Tiger Shark actually ingested a man's camera while it was rolling! View the video on YouTube by clicking this link:

Bull Shark
The Bull Shark is the third most feared shark in the world. It is the second-most because it is been known to swim up freshwater streams because it has a special gland that can perform 'osmoregulation.' This is the ability in which an organism, in this case a bull shark, can keep a constant regulation of water in their bodies when its environment would either cause it to lose or gain.
Freshwater and saltwater fish both perform osmoregulation. Bull sharks have adapted their osmoregulatory abilities so they can survive in both environments!
These powerful creatures also hold a very high testosterone level, with theirs on average being over 400 when they reach maturity! Bull Sharks grow to be a very broad 10 ft. long, and have been known to be very aggressive. I love sharks and do not think of them as wanting to harm us, but when it comes to the bull shark, I honestly think they're down-right mean at times!
One Bull Shark was found caught in Illinois. It was tracked swimming from the Gulf of Mexico up the Mississippi River all the way up to about Lake Michigan! This poses a great threat to river swimmers, because Bull Sharks have been known to attack, not just because of provocation.
A very famous Bull Shark attack was the one on Dr. Erich K. Ritter. He has made a documentary about his attack. Anatomy of a Shark Bite. He was filming in the wiast-high water with world-famous zoologist Nigel Marvin when a very large female came, nudged on the left calf, and then proceeded to bite him two times.
She bit the first time, readjusted her jaw position, and clamped down hard on the second attempt. She whipped her tail, stirring up many, many bubbles, and the rest of the video is history. He managed losing almost all of his left calf. Doctors repaired it as best possible. It does not look the best, but at least he still has his leg!
